Re: The Downey Toxic He ll Hole
Posted by Sharon on 9/05/08

    Deano,

Found it intersting and posted it. I DO know that there are
several people who are claiming illness from that site. I
thought it was very clever to refer to what they are
    experiencing as "The Downey Syndrome".

A couple of articles about it, linked from this article:
    http://la.indy media.org/news/2008/08/219391.php

Also, I don't think that it is true at all, that no one is
listening. "Illness and brownfields" is always a topic that has
many twists and turns because there is so much legislature that
it takes to turn a brownfield into a buildable site. This one
looks particularly complicated because you have a hospital on
the site and a major motion picture studio with workers
continually building sets, etc...as I understand it.

As an example that some brownfields may not be as clean or safe
as one would want, below is info of another one out of the UK.
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/3014336.stm

Wonder what the percentage of brownfields is where there are no
reports of increased illness to those where there are reports.
