Dr Cheney was horrified at the CFS patients who went out and got a clinically based Lyme diagnosis,
and then took long term antibiotics which destroyed their intestinal flora, unleashed unstoppable
candida infections and created immune disturbances which people have yet to recover from... and all
too often with little or no good result.
Dr Cheney recommends caution, looking for better evidence of active infection before committing to
what may turn out to be an unhelpful, and possibly even a harmful course of action.
Dr Shoemaker has taken a fair bit of abuse, and his motives misportrayed, for making the same
observation, and taking a similar stance.
It may not always be clear at the time, but Dr Shoemaker has definite reasons for he does.
I have yet to see him meet any challenge with anything less than the utmost integrity and highest
ethical standards.
