Re: Class action against State Farm Insurance in Florida
Posted by Cassadra Lamoureux on 2/04/05

Our Home sustained damage due to Hurricane Charley, State
Farm paid for the leaks inside of our home (3 different
areas) as a result of the hurricane. We have Gravel and Tar
roof (not shingle) and we were bombarded by debris during
the storm from the forest behind us.

Getting a roofing company to come out and give us an
estimate was difficult as I would schedule and then when
they found out it was a gravel tar roof, they didn't show
    up??????

FINALLY in January 2005 after many of the roofs had been
repaired we got a roofing company to come out. They stated
that to adequately fix our roof it would require a re-roof.
Now, in December of 2003 we had our roof inspected by 3
different companies who all stated that the roof looked
great and that 3 of the corners could use some repair. We
made those repairs and had no problems with the
    roof......Until the hurricane.

Like I said prior, State Farm paid for the repair of the
leaks that were inside the home.

early this week (Febuary 2005) an adjuster (the 4th one that
had been assigned to us) FINALLY showed up with our roofer
when we were not present. In talking to the roofer, they
said it was a waste of their time because the woman...LINDA
spent less than 5 minutes on the roof, determined that it
was just "old" and denied all claim for a re-roof or repair
of the roof where the leaks are seeping in. How you could
fix the inside of the home and not the outside is obsurd!!!

She had the audacity to tell me I had those leaks before the
hurricane.....I just didn't know about them and with all the
rain they just "showed up" She was very short with both the
roofer and myself and didn't want to hear anything anybody
    had to say.

How can our lives be in one misguided adjuster's hands????
Why did we get thrown around to 4 different adjusters?? why
did they meet the roofer without letting me know and have
the opportunity to be present???? this is WRONG!!!! I have
plenty of friends (who also have state farm) who recieved
new roofs and they didn't even have leaks on the inside???
How is that?? I legitimately have leaks on the inside of my
home that I cannot have fixed until the outside of the roof
is fixed. She denied everything including a repair!!

I have found Mold on my children's pillows (in the room that
has the biggest leak) and NO HELP from them. State Farm now
says we need to go into mediation. WHy do we pay our
premium every single month? For this? The reason you get
insurance is so in the event of a catastrophy you can be
assured that you can take care of your property? the reason
we picked them over other insurance carriers is because of
    the "reputation" Think twice people!!
