Post: Black Cohosh Hepatoxicity

Posted by Michael D. Corbett, Ph.D. on 11/02/07

A Swiss research group at the University of Basel recently
reported their results of studies designed to investigate
liver toxicity by black cohosh. Their publication in the
October 12, 2007 issue of Cellular Molecular Life Sciences
described the results of their studies in rats, and led
them to conclude: "The results are compatible with
idiosyncratic hepatotoxicity as observed in patients
treated with Cimucifuga extracts." The abstract of this
paper is available on PubMed as PMID 17928951.
